Beautifully photographed, with brief comments about most of the barns in the photographs. I was born in rural Kentucky, and was familiar with most of the counties that were covered, but was disappointed that my home county (which is no longer very rural) did not have any barns pictured in the book, even though it is in the outer bluegrass of Kentucky. The variety of barns reviewed was very broad, from small "stock sheds" to elaborate horse barns, and the scenery behind the architecture was stunning and alluring--enough to cause a desire to return for a visit after 52 years away from home. But you don't have to be from Kentucky to enjoy this book, your don't have to be from a rural background, and you don't need to understand the architecture. You will still enjoy this book. Born and raised in Kentucky is was so neat to see the differences between the ages and even the regions these barns were build. I was also excited to recognize some barns that I've passed by my whole life. At the same time it waa sad to see one barn in particular that is no longer standing, sadly it was torn town shortly after it's picture was taken.
